How To Block Strangers From Messaging On Instagram

Blocking unknown followers is one of the best strategies to protect your account and keep your messages safe.

Blocking unwanted messages is an excellent way of protecting yourself and feeling safe while on Instagram.

Some stalkers (just visiting your profile) and unwanted followers might be harmless, but some are downright dangerous.

Why risk it?

The only way to stay protected is to block those users. You can do so by tapping the three dots icon > Blocked > Block User.

Here’s how to block strangers from messaging on Instagram

  1. The first step is to make sure that you have the latest version of the Instagram app.
  2. Open Instagram and go to your profile section. Tap the three-line menu icon in the top-right corner
  1. Tap on ‘Settings’.
  2. Scroll down and select Privacy.
  3. Then, tap on ‘Messages’ and switch on ‘Comment Filters’.
  4. Next, switch on ‘Hide offensive comments’.

Instagram has no real way of blocking someone from messaging you. It is a little clunky in that manner, but there are ways to stop people from being able to message you.

This is what happens when I message someone who doesn’t follow me back:

  • First, I get a notice saying “Message Failed”, and then I am redirected right back to my home feed.
  • If I am messaging someone who does follow me, it will take me to their profile page and then give me the option of either sending the message as a guest or sending the message using my Instagram profile.

The following is what happens if I click “Send Using My Profile”:

  • When I do that, I have to go through the verification process again and only after it is verified can I finally get the option to send the message.
  • Once this process happens, they would not ask you to verify your account again.

The latest update on Instagram is sure to be a hit with all the celebrities around the world who have been getting publicly harassed on the social media platform.

You can now block any number of random people from sending you direct messages, which should help solve many issues.

Isn’t it great that you can now protect yourself from stalkers and other weirdos whose messages you don’t want to deal with?
